HW 2 - Food - Initial Thoughts

I believe the biggest impact on how a person will eat is where he grows up. For example a person raised in South America is far likelier than one in North Dakota to enjoy spicy foods. For a majority of us familiarity plays a big part in how we eat.

I also believe social factors, such as acceptance, can also influence how we eat. Our surrounding society influences our individual taste. Maybe that's why some foods coincide with certain nations and cultures. It appears to me that our appetite is based on our gender, cultural identity, race, and social class. Food's effect on lifestyles, social class, gender, and race our often over looked . For example families and individuals caut in economic hardships our forced mostly to eat what is cheap, most of these foods happen to be not as healthy as higher-priced foods, making these people suffer from a higher risk of health problems, such as heart disease or obesity.

In a lot of ways food is part of our identity. From a very young age were programmed our eating habits. We eat what our family eats and for the most part these habits do not tend to change.Food and eating is used as a way we accept new members into our group, to celebrate milestones, and to express religious or political beliefs.

  1. Matt,

Sketched out some interesting areas. Would have enjoyed seeing some color in the sketch but I trust you will develop the sketch as the curriculum moves forward.

Better proofread than much of your work last year and relatively succinct. Could still be tightened and a few errors remain.
